Vivitar is a manufacturer of aftermarket products. This means that the lenses should be used in cameras from other manufacturers.

If you have a goal, there may be a designation near the base of the lens cameras, indicating that it was intended.

Lenses for Nikon cameras usually have a small metal shoe "," assembled and not as part of the target immediately adjacent to the bayonet. For other cameras, we have examined, even the bayonet, and the differences are subtle.

If there are no markings on the lens, you can in a photo shop where the staff really knows something about photography and searching for their opinion. You need the glass in order to answer the question ..

You can use almost any SLR camera with Vivitar, you will find the right adapter for it. (I know I have a Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm lens on a Canon Rebel XSi and it works!) Note that the focus of the lens is capable of manually with an old Vivitar. Also, you do not want, you can use a special camera lens. You'll probably want more goals in the future and want to make sure you have the best equipment suit your needs. In your case, I suggest a Canon Rebel XTi or Nikon D40.
